PROGRAMME:
16:00 welcome with coffee/thee at Fruittuin van West, Tuinlokaal
16:15 starts of the interactive workshop
17:15 evening walk in the Tuinen van West trying to spot and listen to some bats
18:15 end of the activity, return to the parking area at Fruittuin.
If you have a garden or a terrace, you may have noticed some strange silent figures fluttering
around at dusk. These are bats that come out of their shelters to feed on flies and mosquitoes.
After the summer months spent flying in the night searching for moths and other insects, bats are
now in full mating season! Join us at this event: Ecologist Giulia from Cityplot will tell you about
these fascinating creatures and we will try to listen to their calls with the help of a Bat Detector.
During the mating season, their calls are more unique than ever!
Children from the age of 7 are welcome but please remember that most of the explanations will be
done in English. (De avond is in het Engels, de spreekster verstaat wel Nederlands en spreekt
beperkt Nederlands).
NICE TO BRING:
Be sure to wear warm clothes and waterproof shoes. The activity will happen even with light rain,
so don’t forget to take your rain jacket with you. You can bring a flashlight, but we will try to walk
in darkness as much as possible, so our eyes can adapt to the new conditions.

Hi, I am Giulia!
I am an ecologist and nature guide from Italy based in the Netherlands. On summer nights, I am
usually out in the field scouting for bats with my Bat Detector. Every bat emits a unique sound and
we will try to recognize the different species which inhabit the area. If you would like to know more
